Overseas Medical Aid
Medical Volunteer and Outreach Services/ 國內外醫療志工服務
Under the leadership of Honorary Director Dr. Chiu Chung-Ching, the Chi Mei Medical Center established the Chi Mei Medical Service (CMMS) in 2007. This voluntary program, joined by over 300 staff members across our three campuses, is dedicated to serving communities in remote or medically underserved areas both within Taiwan and abroad.
Domestically, CMMS provides mobile medical services, home-based care, health promotion, and health education to regions including Tainan’s Nanhua, Guanshan, Yujing, Qigu, Kaohsiung’s Neimen, Pingtung’s Wutai, Alishan, Hualien’s Chi Mei tribal areas, Nantou’s Ruiyan tribal area, as well as Taitung, Orchid Island, and Penghu. Internationally, our teams have extended care and academic exchanges to at least 15 countries, including the Thai-Myanmar border, India’s Uttar Pradesh and Darjeeling Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Center, Indonesia’s Pusat Hospital, Vietnam, the Philippines, Nepal, Eswatini, São Tomé and Príncipe, Kenya, Nicaragua, Saint Lucia, Haiti, Solomon Islands, Palau, and Papua New Guinea. Even after three years of the pandemic, CMMS continues its medical outreach and academic collaboration on the Thai-Myanmar border. Honorary Director Dr. Chiu has personally joined numerous missions as a volunteer physician.
Looking ahead, CMMS remains committed to reaching “wherever we are moved to serve,”bringing advanced medical care to underserved communities. Through this work, we aim to share Chi Mei’s spirit of compassion and humanism, extending our culture of care and well-being far and wide.
