Indications

Central diabetes insipidus; Primary nocturnal enuresis

Administration & Dosage

Adult

Central diabetes insipidus:PO, initial 0.05 mg BID, maintenance, 0.1-0.8 mg/d in 2 divided doses

Primary nocturnal enuresis: PO, initial 0.2 mg HS, dose may be titrated up to 0.6 mg if necessary Max. PO, 1.2 mg/d.

Pediatric Central diabetes insipidus: 3-12 yrs, PO, see adult dose. Primary nocturnal enuresis: > 6 yrs, intranasal/PO, see adult dose.

Contraindication

hypersensitivity to desmopressin products; patients with moderate to severe renalimpairment (Ccr less than 50 mL/min).

Precaution

Adverse reaction

L or R: Severe allergic reaction; light hypertension; hyponatremia or water intoxication; transient hypotension; tachycardia; abdominal or stomach cramps; flushing or redness of skin; pain in vulva; headache; nausea. Intranasal use- epistaxis; runny or stuffy nose; URI

Notes

Patients previously on intranasal therapy may begin oral therapy 24 hrs after the last intranasal dose.
