Anesthesia adjunct (opioid analgesic):
Induction of anesthesia (for procedures lasting ≧45 mins):IV, 0.13-0.245 mg/kg induction dose followed by administration of an inhalation anesthetic
Maintenance of anesthesia (in conjunction with nitrous oxide and oxygen):
Surgery duration≦ 30 mins: 0.008-0.02 mg/kg, then continuous IV infusion of 0.0005-0.001 mg/kg/min or single doses of 0.003-0.005 mg/kg as required
Surgery duration> 30 mins: 0.02-0.075 mg/kg as an initial loading dose, followed by continuous infusion at a rate of 0.0005-0.003 mg/kg/min and/or by single injections of 0.005-0.015 mg/kg as required. Following induction with alfentanil, infusion rate requirements may be reduced by 30 to 50% during the 1st hr of maintenance.
Sedation: IV, 0.003 to 0.008 mg/kg as an initial loading dose, followed by administration of single doses of 0.003 to 0.005 mg/kg as required.
