Indications

Antibacterial Meningitis; Complicated UTI; Uncomplicated UTI Cystic; fibrosis patients

Administration & Dosage

Adult and pediatric3 12 yrs
Antibacterial: IM/IV, 3-4 g q 4-6h.
Meningitis:IV, 4 g q4h, or 75 mg/kg q6h.
Complicated UTI: IV, 3-4 g q 6-8h.
Uncomplicated UTI: IM/IV, 1.5-2 g q6h or 3-4 g q12h.
Cystic fibrosis patients: IV, 350 to 450 mg/kg/d.
Max. 24 g/d
Pediatric
Meningitis:IM/IV,
Neonates< 2 kg: 50 mg/kg q12h during the 1st wk of life, then 50 mg/kg q8h thereafter.

Neonates≧ 2 kg, 50 mg/kg q8h during the 1st wk of life, then 50 mg/kg q6h thereafter

Contraindication

hypersensitivity to beta-lactams, including penicillins and/or cephalosporins

Precaution

Adverse reaction

M: GI disturbances; headache; oral or vaginal candidiasis
L: Allergic reactions; exfoliative dermatitis; serum sickness–like reactions; skin rash or itching
R: Clostridium difficile colitis; hepatotoxicity; interstitial nephritis; leukopenia or neutropenia; mental disturbances; pain at site of injection; platelet dysfunction or thrombocytopenia; seizures
