Features of Quality Care
Anesthesiology/ 麻醉部
In 2006, Chi Mei's anesthesia services were formally elevated to Department of Anesthesiology, establishing four specialized divisions: General and Transplant Anesthesiology, Cardiac Anesthesiology, Pain Management, and Maternal-Child Anesthesiology (added in 2010). This subspecialty structure reflects international trends toward specialized anesthetic care delivery.
Our comprehensive approach to anesthetic excellence encompasses six optimization strategy:
- Pioneering 24/7 In-House Coverage
Since 1989, Chi Mei became Taiwan's first hospital to implement continuous attending physician in-house coverage-a model now recognized internationally as the gold standard for anesthetic safety. Our tiered support system, with senior attendings providing backup for junior colleagues, has created a collaborative culture renowned throughout Taiwan's anesthesiology community. - International Education and Academic Excellence
We maintain ongoing partnerships with leading institutions in the United States, Canada, and Japan, continuously sending faculty for advanced training to enhance patient safety protocols. Since 2000, our anesthesiologists have pursued master's and doctoral degrees, strengthening our research capabilities and securing academic appointments that contribute to global anesthesiology knowledge. - Advanced Monitoring Technology Integration
Beginning in 2016, all operating rooms were equipped with comprehensive monitoring systems including anesthesia depth monitors, neuromuscular monitoring devices, and video-guided intubation tools. We have incorporated cerebral oximetry, advanced ultrasound systems, 3D transesophageal echocardiography, sophisticated physiological monitors, and autotransfusion systems—establishing monitoring standards comparable to leading international centers. - Excellence in Postoperative Care
Our commitment to perioperative excellence extends beyond the operating room. In 2011, we integrated delirium assessment protocols into routine postoperative evaluations. Our postoperative nausea and vomiting prevention program earned the 2016 SNQ symbol and Bronze Award—representing national leadership in this critical aspect of patient satisfaction and recovery. - Digital Health Innovation
Complete digitization of anesthetic records was achieved across all three campuses in July 2016, encompassing preoperative assessment, intraoperative monitoring, and postoperative evaluation. By 2020, we completed digitization of our Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) system, establishing comprehensive data analytics capabilities. - Comprehensive Information Systems Integration
Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) digitization was completed in 2022, followed by full integration of blood bank management and anesthetic consent processes in 2024. These advances represent complete digital transformation of perioperative care delivery, optimizing clinical decision-making and patient safety.
