Chi Mei Hospital was founded with a heartfelt mission: bringing quality healthcare to southern Taiwan, where medical resources were once limited. Back then, many patients had to endure long trips to northern Taiwan just to receive the care they needed. Our goal was to ease the burden on patients by offering top-quality care right here in the south. With this mission in mind, we took over Feng Chia Hospital (Chi Mei Hospital’s predecessor), which at the time was carrying more than NT$700 million in debt.

After relocating from the former Feng Chia site to our current Yongkang location, we steadily expanded the facility with the construction of Medical Buildings II through V with the support of the Chi Mei Group. Today, it is a major medical center, with 1,278 beds and 37 medical departments providing comprehensive care.

Thanks to the dedication of all our employees, we have also opened the Liouying and Chiali campuses in recent years. Along with the Yongkang campus, these three locations now form the core of the Chi Mei Healthcare System, serving not only the greater Tainan area but also neighboring counties and cities. The quality of care we provide and the number of patients we serve today reflect the very vision we set out with — “Caring for Our Community in Tainan.” I’m truly heartened by all that we’ve accomplished together.

Looking to the future, I’ve always said that 100 years from now, I hope to leave behind just two lasting legacies in Taiwan: Chi Mei Hospital and the Chi Mei Museum. After all, to live a truly happy and fulfilling life, one ultimately needs both a healthy body and healthy mind. This has been my lifelong mission.

As we celebrate Chi Mei Hospital’s 50th anniversary, I want to share these thoughts with all of you, reflecting on how far we’ve come and encouraging us to move forward together.
