Adult
Anxiety disorders:
IM/IV, 2-5 mg for moderate symptoms; 5-10 mg for severe symptoms, the dose being repeated in 3 or 4 hrs, if necessary.
Sedative-hypnotic; alcohol withdrawal:IM/IV, initial 10 mg then 5-10 mg in 3-4 hr if needed.
Preoperative medication: IM/IV, 5-10 mg prior to surgery.
Cardioversion: IV, 5-15 mg 5-10 mins prior to procedure.
Endoscopic procedures: IM, 5-10 mg 30 mins prior to procedure; IV (preferred route),< 20 mg, immediately prior to procedure.
Status epilepticus and severe recurrent convulsive seizures: IV slowly, initial 5-10 mg, dose being repeated, if necessary, every 10-15 mins to a total dose of 30 mg.
Muscle spasm: IM/IV, initial 5-10 mg, the dose being repeated in 3-4 hrs, if necessary. For tetanus, larger doses may be required.
Pediatric
Anticonvulsant (status epilepticus and severe recurrent convulsive seizures): IM/IV,
30 days-5 yrs, 0.2-0.5 mg every 2-5 mins to a cumulative dose of 5 mg.
?5 yrs, 1 mg every 2-5 min to a cumulative dose of 10 mg. If necessary, regimen may be repeated in 2-4 hrs.
Skeletal muscle relaxant adjunct (Tetanus):IM/IV,
30days-5 yrs,1-2 mg; ?5 yrs, 5-10 mg. The dose being repeated every 3 or 4 hours as needed. |
