In 1989, the anesthesiology department pioneered 24-hour anesthesia care in Taiwan with senior attending physicians working on a 2-shift schedule to assist and support junior physicians. To optimize anesthesia care, the department has developed Guidelines for Anesthesia and routinely sends attending physicians to the United States, Canada and Japan for advanced education and training. All operating rooms in CMMC are equipped with advanced monitoring equipment such as anesthesia depth monitors, muscle relaxation monitors, video-optical intubation stylet, cerebral oximetry monitors, high-level ultrasound scanner, 3D transesophageal echo imaging, various advanced physiological monitoring tools and autotransfusion machines. Computerized anesthesia records (including preoperative evaluation, intraoperative monitoring and postoperative visits) and QA quality management system are used to ensure quality of anesthesia care. Outstanding postoperative care the anesthesiology department has provided, especially postoperative nausea and vomiting prevention, has won the 2016 SNQ Bronze Award.
